For Ashley Viagbo, Development Administrator at The Arc, the most inspiring part of the mission is opening doors of opportunity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

“So many of the individuals we serve have gone through life without the chance to fully live their best life,” Ashley shares. “To be a part of an organization that makes it their mission to provide that has been truly inspiring.”

Ashley sees the mission come to life in meaningful, tangible ways. One powerful moment for her was helping secure funding to renovate several of The Arc’s group homes. After the work was completed, a resident shared that for the first time in years she could use the restroom without assistance.

“Hearing that meant the world to me,” Ashley recalls. “It showed how even one change can restore dignity, independence, and joy.”

Her pride in working at The Arc comes from being part of a team of changemakers. Every day, she sees how the organization gives hope, uplifts families, and ensures that people who might otherwise be overlooked are seen, heard, and supported.

Professionally, Ashley has grown in leadership, communication, and creativity—and personally, she’s gained a deeper sense of confidence and compassion.

Most rewarding of all, she says, is hearing directly from families, residents, and coworkers whose lives have been touched by The Arc’s support.

“Knowing that our work has given someone hope and a fresh outlook on life is what keeps me motivated every single day.”
