Volunteer or Intern
There
are so many ways you can volunteer at The Arc!
Let
us know how you would like to volunteer; we will put
your skills to work! Here are a few volunteer options:
Volunteer
on one of The Arc's many committees!
Help out with special events, offer financial advice,
or match your talents to our needs.
Group
Volunteering
Bring your company, church group, team, or youth group
and help us with a project. We would love your help
with yard work, home maintenance, thrift-store sorting,
and many other projects!
Internships
The Arc is excited to partner with colleges, universities,
and employment programs to offer meaningful internships
in the fields of social work, nursing, business administration,
and human resources.
Thrift
Store
The Arc Thrift Store is a resale store run by and for
The Arc of Prince George’s County. Proceeds help
fund The Arc’s program. Volunteers are needed
to sort and inspect second hand items for quality control,
and help display merchandise.
Become
a friend and advocate. The Arc’s volunteer
program fosters friendships between members of the community
and the people we serve. Friendship is what makes life
fulfilling, eases difficult circumstances, and adds
joy to our daily experiences. Many people with developmental
disabilities need a special friend in their lives. Are
you willing to give a little time and make a big difference
in someone’s life?
Personal
Advocates
Become a friend and personal advocate for someone in
The Arc’s in-home supports programs. Share experiences
and interests and make lasting friendships!
Day
Support Services
The Day Support Services provide a meaningful day for
men and women with developmental disabilities through
community outings, games, arts, and activities. These
programs are interested in volunteers with skills in
any interest area, and will work to match volunteer
skills with the interests of the people in the programs.
The sky is truly the limit as we expand the world for
the people in our programs and work to create lasting
friendships.
Residential
Services
Throughout Prince George’s County, the Arc operates
43 homes for 125 people with developmental disabilities.
The residents of these homes are looking for friendship.
Volunteers with any interest area will be matched to
residents with similar interests.
Very
Important Parents (VIP)
VIP is a support group for parents with cognitive disabilities.
The group meets once a month to learn new parenting
skills and discusses topics such as safety, hygiene,
nutrition, education, and discipline. In the spirit
of circular common interest, VIP is looking for people
who have children with cognitive disabilities to become
Volunteer Mentors for parents in the support group.
Volunteer Mentors are encouraged to give an hour of
their time each month to assist and support VIP members.
People interested in presenting information on parenting
topics are also encouraged to volunteer.
