What
is Supported Employment?
The Supported Employment Program trains and coaches
qualified, hard working employees for businesses and
organizations. The Arc provides continued on-site job
coaching and support as needed at no cost to the business.
Benefits for businesses:
Over 40 businesses and organizations throughout the
Washington, D.C. Metro Area employ people through The
Arc’s program because the benefits just make sense.
- Targeted
Jobs Tax Credit during the employee’s first
year of employment.
- Zero expense for recruitment and training.
- Added support from the employee’s job coach
at zero expense to the employer.
- In some cases, a
sub-minimum wage based on a person’s productivity
capacity.
- Implementation of affirmative
action policies.
- Contribution to the community by turning an unemployed
consumer into a hardworking, responsible taxpayer.
How
does it work?
The Arc Supported Employment Program trains people in
areas that match their skills and interests. Job coaches
provide initial onsite training and continued support
as needed.
People
typically find employment through one of three paths:
Individual
placement— short-term on the job training
and periodic follow along services for an individual
employee. Click here to view resumes of people looking for individual placement in an office
setting.
Enclave employment—a small group of people
who need on-going job coaching services on a daily basis.
People work at the same facility and share a job coach.
Mobile
crews—a small group of workers and job coaches
function as a unified team to complete a contracted
job.
