Low Intensity Support Services (LISS)
Serving Prince George’s, Montgomery, Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s Counties

What is Low Intensity Support Services (LISS)?

Low Intensity Support Services (LISS) is a statewide program funded through the Developmental Disability Administration (DDA). LISS funding are flexible, dynamic and adaptable to the needs of the individual. LISS are designed to make use of community resources, building on the individuals existing support network, while providing a short-term solution for a problem. LISS are preventive in nature, creative, flexible, responsive, and time limited to assist children and adults with developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life, remain in their own homes, increase or maintain independence, and participate in their communities.

LISS can assist an individual, and/or family with low level, easy access, and short-term supports to avoid a crisis situation. Generally, low-level supports can be provided for less than $3000 and although individuals are eligible to apply for funding, there is no guarantee that funding will be available. LISS staff will work with families and/or case manager to explore natural, community, insurance and other services, supports and resources prior to approving requests. While this is a one-time-only program, requests for exemptions will be considered. LISS is the payer of last resort.
