Childcare
The Arc-YMCA Partnership & The Arc-Easter Seals Partnership - Inclusive childcare centers for children with and without disabilities
Subsidized by a grant from the Maryland State Department of Education, The Arc Childcare Programs support children with disabilities in inclusive settings within The Bowie YMCA and the Easter Seals NARA Childcare Developmental Center.
The partnership with the YMCA supports children with developmental disabilities and/or medically fragile conditions. Licensed nurses are on site everyday, all day, and provide staff and parent training in addition to overseeing the children's daily medical needs.
Children with developmental disabilities at the
Easter Seals center receive an initial medical assessment and
are visited by a nurse twice a month.
Both centers accept vouchers, and limited tuition assistance is available. Children flourish under small child to caregiver ratios at both centers.
Curriculum
The centers operate within the Creative Classroom curriculum where motor and cognitive development skills are addressed in daily activities that are adapted to meet each child's specific strengths and needs. Therapies authorized through the Infants and Toddlers Program may be provided in the center within the typical daily routine. Staff will address IFSP and IEP goals.
Statistics show that children with special needs who have the opportunity to play and learn with their typically developing age mates progress more rapidly than those who do not.
The Arc-YMCA Childcare Center is located at 3501 Moylan Drive, Bowie, MD 20715.
The Arc-Easter Seals Childcare Center is located at 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740.
Centers' hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., excluding major holidays and teacher in-service days.
