Adult Services: Recreation and Fitness

The Arc’s Recreation and Fitness Programs create social outlets for people with developmental disabilities and promote healthy lifestyles. The Arc operates different programs to fit different people’s needs and schedules.

Out on the Town

Adults with development disabilities participate in chapters of this social club. Currently, clubs meet at each of the four Arc Day Program sites—Laurel, Temple Hills, and two Largo locations. Out on the Town members meet every other week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays to socialize, dine out, and participate in community events. Focus on Fitness

This program runs through a partnership with the Maryland-National Capitol Parks & Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). The program is separated into six-week sessions that run in conjunction with Adult Day Services. Each session introduces participants to different types of sports. Multiple agencies participate in an inter-agency tournament at the end of the program.

The Sarah Petit Fund

Established in memory of Sarah Ellen Petit, and administered and supported by The Arc of Prince George’s County, this grant supplements recreational and travel expenses for people with developmental disabilities. The goal of this program is to foster the growth of friendships, meaningful community relationships, and joy in living for as many people in as many different life situations as possible. The grant is awarded in amounts of up to $400. Eligibility requirements include the presence of a developmental disability and either ongoing participation in programs and services of The Arc, or membership in The Arc.
