Supported Employment

What is Supported Employment?
The Supported Employment Program offers training opportunities and support in finding and sustaining and meaningful employment for people with developmental disabilities.

How does the program work?
Funded through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), Employees receive continued on-site job coaching and support as needed. The Arc guides program employees into one of three typical employment paths:

  • Individual placement - short term on the job training and periodic follow along services for an individual employee.
  • Enclave employment - a small group of people who need on-going job coaching services on a daily basis. People work at the same facility and share a job coach.
  • Mobile crews - a small group of workers and job coaches function as a unified team to complete a contracted job.

The Arc works hard to ensure that people find employment in areas that match their skills and interests.

Supportive Employment also offers an Office Skills Training Center. This center prepares people to work in an office setting and provides 12 months of training in word processing, data entry, equipment use, social skills, safety skills, resume building, and interviews. The program features a practical internship and individualized job placement.

How do I receive services?
All employee applicants must be approved to receive services from the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) or have other means to pay for services. For further information on these programs please contact Deborah Goins at 240-289-0115, ext. 226.
