Spotlight: Time to Shine at The
Kennedy Center!
Making
coffee and filing paperwork may be the traditional internship
duties that many students take on when accepting a position
with an organization. But for Deyman Wade, an Office
Skills Training Program graduate at The Arc, the intern
experience will be quite different.
Deyman was picked out of a pool of 20 applicants to
intern at The Kennedy Center for The Arts through the
Experiential Education Initiative Internship. A full-time
paid internship, EEI offers practical work experience
in a workplace that suits the interest of art lovers
perfectly.
Teachers and supervisors have continually remarked on
Deyman’s tremendous potential. Armed with a drive
to succeed and his interest in the arts, the EEI internship
is an ideal opportunity for him.
“Deyman is very dedicated and outgoing,”
said Leah Kimball, placement coordinator for The Arc’s
employment services division. “He is going to
do very well there.”
Another Office Skills Training Program graduate, Sarah
Gardiner, also participated in the Kennedy Center internship
last January. Gardiner worked in the document center,
and she specialized in copying all the literature for
the organization.
The Kennedy Center has a limited number of these prestigious
internships available through EEI, awarding three in
September followed by three more in January. Deyman
and two other talented individuals will be participating
this spring.
